Posada 2014

What is POSADA?

Posada is an old Mexican tradition where young people dressed as Mary and Joseph travelled from house to house asking for a room for the night and telling people about the imminent arrival of Jesus in the weeks leading up to Christmas. On Christmas Eve they would visit the local church to re-enact the nativity and place figures of Mary and Joseph in a crib.

Posada is Spanish for "lodging", or "accommodation and traditionally the Mexican festival would last for nine days representing the nine months of pregnancy, specifically the pregnancy of Mary carrying Jesus.

In the UK a more recent tradition is to send out the figures of Mary and Joseph on an Advent journey around a parish leading up to Christmas. The figures travel from home to home staying overnight before moving onwards in their journey. Whilst the figures are in your home, it is an opportunity to pray with them,  quietly reflect on the wonder of that first Christmas or simply to have them as a quiet presence as you go about your life.

This year Mary and Joseph stayed with Ellie & Sue first of all on Advent Sunday as they started their long & uncertain journey.

The Posada journey continued and Mary & Joseph stayed with Adriana and Felix. They are pleased to know that a warm welcome awaits them on every night of Advent.

Looks like Mary & Joseph had a very warm and festive welcome at the Opkalaeke household and the children took extra-special care of their guests.

At Karen and Mark's house, Mary and Joseph tried to find room with Mojo the cat, but unfortunately he wasn't sharing!

Mary and Joseph enjoyed a night with Selina and the Digman family.

The donkey asked for Christmas off this year, but Justin Nosa was happy to help.  Now, which way to Bethlehem.....

Mary and Joseph then went on to visit the Matam family.

Jacob Moore loved having his special guests.

Thank you to Yann & Neovi Fransson for taking good care of their special guests. It won't be long now before Mary and Joseph find room in the stable!
